Tour Guide Hong Kong - Going The Extra Mile

We regularly get asked, "Why should I book a Hong Kong guided tour?" or "Why do I need a private tour Hong Kong?" Well, there are many answers as to "why?" First, if you are on a personal tour Hong Kong, you will discover places that you maybe had not heard of and are not mentioned in many cityguide books. Another reason is that your Hong Kong tour guide will be able to tell you much more about the background of places than the internet and you can be sure that the information is correct. However, another reason is that your Hong Kong sightseeing will get the personal touch that will be the "cherry on top" for your time in the city! The following pictures are from our tour guide Mel. He took Steve and his family on a Full Day Private Customised Tour of Hong Kong and created an album for Steve and his family as a little memory of their day here in Hong Kong. Now meet Steve and his family: Chapter1 Chapter2 Chapter3

Chapter4 Chapter5 Chapter6

Chapter7 Chapter8 Chapter9

Chapter10 Last stop Steve and family

When you book a Hong Kong personal tour, we make sure it is as individual as you are! When Mel created Steve's story - a soft toy who is the travel companion of this family's youngest daughter, he wanted to give his guests something that would hold nice memories for them. We want to share our love and passion with our clients and when you book your Hong Kong package tour, we happily go "the extra mile" to create your special day!

About Hong Kong - What is Taoism?

When you are on your Hong Kong city tour, you will see numerous facets concentrated in one single city. You will see extremely rich, extremely poor, East meeting West, beautiful, untouched nature, concrete jungle and you will see Buddhism living alongside Taoism (pronounced more like "dowism"). Tao meaning the "way" or "path", is a religious belief that incorporates philosophical study, meditation and physical exercises that are meant to lead to a long and fruitful life. In Taoist temples, people pay honor to the Taoist gods a large part of what they are doing is about encouraging luck to come to them (which goes back to the ‘living a fruitful life’). They do this by making offerings to the god of them temple and asking for something back in exchange. Amongst various gods and goddesses, we will find names like Tin Hau - the goddess of the sea and protector of the fishermen - fishermen will go to visit Tin Hau with offerings before going out to sea, they will ask for a safe passage and to catch lots of fish. Man - the god of literature - often visited by students, particularly before important exam times. Wong Tai Sin - the god of good health. If you have booked a Hong Kong private tour, don't forget to ask you Hong Kong tour guide to take you to the Wong Tai Sin Temple. This one is amongst the "do not miss" sights to see in Hong Kong! And while you are there, let the fortune tellers tell you your future and let the gods surrounding this astonishing place be in your favour!

Walking Tours Of Hong Kong - Take A Ride On The Peak Tram

If you choose to book a Hong Kong local tour with your Hong Kong tour guide, one of the popular places on your city tour Hong Kong might be a trip on the Peak Tram. This green or red funicular was opened in 1888 to serve families living at The Peak. Consisting of three different classes to travel, on its first day the tram served 600 passengers and over 150,000 in the first year. If you think of sights to see in Hong Kong, you will definitely be amazed by the spectacular views of the city when you are on your tram ride. All heavy equipment including the rails had to be hauled uphill manually!!! Incredible that it took only 3 years to build. Did you know that between 1908 and 1949 an affixed plaque on the first two seats was telling passengers, "This seat is reserved for His Excellency, the Governor"? These seats could not be occupied until two minutes before departure time in the event the Governor might appear unannounced. Ask your personal tour guide in Hong Kong to tell you more about the tram on your next Hong Kong package tour!

Your "Must See" on a Hong Kong Local Tour - Star Ferry

One of Hong Kong's distinctive icons is the Star Ferry. Founded in 1888 there are 12 ferries in the fleet that currently operate two routes across the harbour. If you are on a Hong Kong City Tour, you will definitely have the opportunity to cross from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon with the Star Ferry as we are using the ferries on our walking tours of Hong Kong. You will immediately spot these green and white passenger boats crossing the waters every 10 minutes during your Kowloon walking tour. Even National Geographic Traveler has named the Star Ferry as one of the "fifty places of a lifetime".

During the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, the ferries were used to transport prisoners of war from Sham Shui Po to Kai Tak Airport.

Let your Hong Kong tour guide tell you more about it on your Private Tour Hong Kong!

Why should I hire a private guide?

That is a very good and legitimate question! You could for example take a Local Hong Kong Tour with dozens of other strangers hopping on and off a bus. You might think that a bus tour would allow you to see the most number of places within the shortest time and, at the same time give you a little snippet of Hong Kong life. Whilst there is some truth to this you won't know what you missed out on! Joining a large tour group will give you almost no possibility of asking questions or getting to know the real Hong Kong. If you hire a private tour guide in Hong Kong you can find out about....

  • The everlasting history of East meets West
  • The multifaceted Cantonese cuisine that adopted some of the British and Portuguese tastes
  • The fascinating political environment
  • The dark side of the triads and many many more!

This is only a small insight to the many things that you can expect on a Hong Kong City Tour besides Victoria Peak, the harbour and Star Ferry. Your Personal Guide in Hong Kong will make sure that you have an unforgettable tour, discovering small details and visiting places that you otherwise would not have thought of. Whether you choose a day tour package or after sunset exploration, your private tours in Hong Kong will always be unique - just like YOU! Get in touch with us now and check out which of our Hong Kong Tour Packages will suit you best.
